I think that Glorantha is only as magic rich or poor as you make it. If you like high powered games than play them, if you don't then don't. Simple as that. I must say that in all my years of playing Runequest, I never created a barmaid with 120% combat skills, because it was silly. However I could imagine that it would make for an interesting story to find out why she was so deadly. In my campaing (PDP converted from RQ) I have a player who often refuses to make experience rolls when offered the chance, his character posseses spells that are only of use in daily life and a couple of unusual abilities derived from scenarios. The player in question thinks that if his character becomes too powerful then it will ruin her personality. BTW the character is not a rural farmer who stays at home, she is in fact a Pavis gangster and we have great adventures. The characters reputation is such that she intimidate runelords by her presence (Status) rather than her skill.
