Quibble:
Not _all_ of the gods voluntarily chose the Compromise. The Devil, for instance, never did ...
Also, any of the gods who weren't in Hell at the time (admittedly that's not many ... ) basically faced a take-it-or-leave-it proposal. Choosing the Compromise wasn't *necessarily* a truly free choice for many of them; the Lords of Terror spring to mind ...
