In a message dated 19/10/99 06:49:36 GMT, you write:

<< While there's been a LOT of postings about Hero Wars game mechanics which
meant very little to those of us who never saw a draft, one thing I've not seen discussed is the actual contents (which must be fairly stable by now) - - - given that the product listing when it did exist had 'critters' and 'the divine roster' as separate books >>

The Critters Book is still definately planned although, not being an Issaries employee, I can't confirm anything else...

<< will there actually be enough information in Hero Wars on the important
Gloranthan deities and creatures to pick it up and actually play right away ?>>

There's a fair list of Dragon Pass cults, both Orlanthi and Lunar, and a list of a range of different types of creatures. Neither list is intended to be comprehensive, but I'd say they're adequate until the detailed books come out. Creatures aren't that hard to figure out stats for in HW anyway, once you've seen the examples in the rulebook.

<< What worries me is that we will find ourselves in the same situation as
RQ2
players before Cults of Prax when you had a great game system but next to no  world information >>

Don't forget the Introduction to Glorantha book.

<<and your choice of religion was restricted to either Orlanth Adventurous, Kyger Litor, Black Fang or create your own cult.>>

There are lot more than three cults in the HW rulebook! Over a dozen, actually, at least in the latest draft of that chapter which I've seen. The detail is similar to that in GoG, but the Orlanthi Players Book with (I assume) more detailed write-ups is, I think, one of the first planned releases after the rulebook.

<< Surely it should be possible for the basic Hero Wars rules to give you
enough info to play a standard Orlanthi, Ernaldan, Yelmite, or Lunar character leaving the supplements to fill in all of the exotic associated and sub-cults ?>>

     You shouldn't be disappointed there.

<< If anything kills Issaries at birth it will be delivering a superlative
game system plus a Gloranthan encyclopaedia but with most of the religions and creatures you actually need to play in Glorantha relegated to 'coming soon' books that then take years to appear....>>

I can't speak for the religions, but the Critters Book is already being written, so I doubt the release date will be *that* far ahead.

Forward the glorious Red Army!
