Alex, on Alusar Alynxes:

<< Not being familiar with the source you're working from, I can only make stabs in the dark here; are we in fact talking about a breed in the sense it's be purposefully *bred* by humans with some end in mind, or merely some sub-species which has popped up due to some unforeseen developments in wacky Glorantha feline mytho-genetics? >>

The breeds of alynx are descended from Yinkin's original four kittens (I'm excluding the shadow cat here; don't know where that comes from - later kittens, perhaps, or maybe just feral cross-breeds of the other four) so in that sense we are indeed talking good old Glorantho-Lamarckian genetics. OTOH, the alusar is (apparently) a purely domesticated breed, found only among Heortlings - i.e. you don't generally find them in the wild. Which means that somebody is going to the trouble to domesticate them, and, while I suspect they're rare I wouldn't have thought there was enough demand purely from people wanting familiars to make that worthwhile. But I could be wrong, or it could be they're good *enough* at hunting (or whatever) to be useful if you can't get one of the other sorts.

Doubtless Heortlings have purposefully created sub-breeds from the four main domesticated types, as Martin suggested.

Forward the glorious Red Army!
