The downside of Aqueducts from what I've heard. During the Gothic War, both byzantines and goths cut aqueducts as a wartime measure and left the land so devastated that nobody could repair them for the time being.

But water still flowed through the aqueducts from the source which discharged them at the places where they had been cut (usually in the middle of nowhere) ... creating swamps.

Obviously it should happen in glorantha somewhere...
