> * what are the principle trade routes in Glorantha?
Fronela is still recovering from the Ban and long distance trade up and down the Janube is currently hampered by the Kingdom of War. There is the famous High Llama Pass between Jonatela and Ralios, controlled by cut-throat Lanksti, and notable for the presence of Bad Deal, the main trading establishment of Nida.
Kralorela has three outlets of trade with the outside world. One is at the Iron Forts with the Praxians (where the Kralori sell weapons and metal implements and the Praxians offer exotic beasts, slaves and hostages. The second is Lur Nop where one can find traders from the Vormaini Hinter Isles, Teshnos, Teleos, the Holy Country and the Eastern Isles. The third is Shiyang Province in which caravans from the Lunar Empire are permitted to trade. The Pavis & Big Rubble Book contains a description by a Kralori merchant so they are not that uncommon (although they avoid Corflu for some reason), although many might be connected with Atyar.
The Lunar Empire has massive trade up and down its principal rivers, the Oslir and the Poralistor. They also have a two exotic trade routes. The first goes to the Kralori province of Shiyang through Pent, where the merchants can also trade with the Pentans at Redhair place, a vast emporium. The second is through Dorastor into Safelster (a lunar merchant going there in D:LoD was carrying wine and aluminium because he had heard of a shortage there).
The Holy Country's main export is grain to the Quinpolic League (Nolos & Pasos) along cogs, although it does sell other stuff. There use to be a route through Wenelia controlled by the Trader Princes from Safelster although that has now fallen into disuse as the preferred route to Safelster is by sea to the port of Handra and then through Pralorela. Merchants also travel east to Dosakayo and Lur Nop.
Dragon Pass is the main route between the Holy Country and the Lunar Empire although for some reason, people prefer to go through the Grazelands rather than Sartar.
The Quinpolic League is the main hub of commerce between the Seshnegi pennisula and the outside world (namely Loskalm, the Vadeli Isles, Jrustela and the Holy Country). Much of the Iron in the west comes from the Iron Mountains in the Castle Coast.
Iron is shipped from Dalamdring in Jrustela to coastal Pamaltela the coast) in return for the feathers of the Majestic Parrot and the Red and Green Toucan feathers. The Iron comes from the dwarves of Jrustela some of whom have an apparent fetish for those feathers. The Trade is handled through the Vadeli-dominated Orange Guilds.
Teleos is visited by several people for many things such as Pearls, including the Masloi, the Haragalans and another Eastern Isle, Kumanku and Kralori merchantmen.
Teshnos sells spices, both exotic and psychedelic, to various places (usually the same nations that trade at Lur Nop). This trade is handled by the port of Dosakayo on the Isle of Melib.
Trade in the Eastern Isles is dominated by Trader Jadulilo of Haragala.
Trade in Pamaltela normally involves the coast (except for Kimos) and slaves from Jolar. The Kresh have started up a network in Kothar (trading wood, cloth, out of season fruit in return for meat, information and protection) but it's yet to link up to the world economy.
