Dear Gian,

I'm not sure what it might have been that you were posting that got you that message you shared but there are always people who react that way. A few years ago at the height of the subjective-objective argument I received something similar. It wasn't from anyone official and it accused me of wrecking the digest for them. I've been much more mellow since then
(except for that cat's acting as dogs business...) and I let most things
roll
off my back (or I let others reply).

My expectations of the Digest are :

  1. Anyone can express any opinion they want.
  2. People will try to correct your misapprehensions for you (that's a joke by the way).
  3. These correction attempts can get pretty heated and read like personal attacks. (In part I think this is because the written word is so lacking as a means of communication. (See I had to write out that my remarks above were intended as humorous instead of serious when I could have used emphasis if I were talking to you)).
  4. A lot of replies are done in the heat of the moment instead of letting some time pass so that a more reasoned rather then passionate reply can be made.
  5. Don't expect people to respond to anything you post. Not every topic is of interest to all people. If you don't hear about something you post the following are all possible :
  6. everyone hated it.
  7. everyone loved it.
  8. nobody cares.
  9. everybody cares.
  10. they're all thinking about it first and will get back to you.
  11. they're too busy to post anything.
  12. the sole person who cares is on vacation.
  13. etc.
  14. Don't expect to enjoy or even understand every Digest (not possible in my opinion).

Again I'm not sure what it was that you posted that supposed offended but I wasn't offended. I didn't agree with a lot of what you said but I didn't care
enough to respond. Please stay on the Digest. If you say something I'm interested in I'll read it, if not I'll scroll past it. Won't be the last time.

My policy towards things contained in the Digest is that personally I ignore them if they don't interest me

As far as what you were called I'd personally like to call for a ban on regional insults. Not everybody on the Digest is English or was brought up in a country enlightened enough to show British sitcoms. Stick to insults that are more universal in origin or appear on American television. Don't call me a wanker and I won't call you a jam tart.

(Actually the above was more humour I don't think insults of any sort belong
on this Digest. Putting a smiley behind an insult doesn't cut it).

Just my two bits (Canadian)..
