Being a member of the Digest

Gian Gero (Ilav Topix) quits again...

He's upset. He's made his speech.
He's made his stand for freedom. He's gone. Fine by me. Life goes on.

Gian only did one thing that was questionable in my opinion; He made a big show of quitting, but never quit. He signed right back up under a different pseudonym and kept right on being an active member of our "community". I really don't care if this qualifies as anonymous posting or not, I see it as deceptive. It's not worth getting upset about, but it is something that I doubt I would do. Please note that I did not say whether it was Right OR Wrong.

Keep this in mind:
Eric Rowe, the list administrator, hasn't banned Gian from this list. No one has "forced" him to leave, nor made his life intolerable. Gian CAN stay on this list as long as he wants.

I agree with Martin Laurie again (gasp). Many people have been subjected to far worse flaming and nasty insults. I did a little research into some of the posts surrounding Gian's original departure (many thanks to Brian for the archives) and I find it interesting that he says "his shell is not so soft", but then later says the criticism is too much. Whenever somebody posts something that I consider as nasty or insulting I ask myself one question: Is this really worth getting upset about? If I say yes, I then ask myself: Is it worth being nasty or insulting in my response? The answer to that one for me has always been "NO". That's how I choose to live my life. I don't have much desire to devote a lot of my time or energy to being angry. Life has far more things I prefer to spend them on. (like getting Tales 19 finished or Griffin Mountain reprinted OR even Real Life)

Martin Laurie laments about the 3000 mile distance factor limiting his ability to beat people to death...

No problem as of July 21, 2000. Martin is one of our Guests at Convulsion 2000 in Leicester, UK. We're very tempted to have him be a guest for our new event "The Jerry Springer Glorantha Panel". We may have to charge admission to that one.

NOTE: We can't guarantee that all of the right people will be there,

but we'll do our best, Martin.

I've been a subscriber to this digest for several years now. People come and go. Some quietly and some with a lot of fanfare. The rules of the digest have no specific or implied policy regarding anyone's behavior. Such rules would be highly subjective and inevitably unworkable. If you want to see real flame wars, subscribe to the USENET group rec.games.frp.misc and you will quickly see two things:

  1. There are posters who do nothing but be as viscious and nasty as possible with little provocation MANY times EVERY day.
  2. The group still functions and gets on with its discussions.

Lastly, some quick definitions: Wanker = masturbator, Prat = idiot
