Ain't broke?

Danny asks:
>On a side note I cannot believe that you truly adhere to the precept of if
>it's not broken, break it anyway to see if you can create something better.
>Would you seriously divorce your wife, with whom you were happily married,
>just to see if you could create a better life?

That isn't breaking and rebuilding the marriage, that is dumping the marriage. The object of breaking and rebuilding something is to stay with that something but make it better, through evolution and growth. It is the unacceptance of evolution and growth in people and things around us that often causes complete breakage and divorce.

I basically rebuild my marriage every day. We have constant conflict over concepts but as we both share a love for our unity, the conflict breaks down barriers to that unity. By debate, argument and friction, I've come to understand my wife in a way I wouldn't have if I'd simply ignored the things I didn't like, or swept them under the carpet. In truth we have way less rows than when we first met. She used to complain that other men she'd been with started without rows for the first spell of the relationship and then the disagreements built as each revealed their true personality. I just show it from word go and let the chips fall where they may. If she can stand the test and I can stand the test, then our relationship is solid.

You can ask her if you like, if you don't believe me. I'd get her to write in now, but she's not feeling well.

I think of Glorantha the same way. I even think of my games the same way. You can ask my players. They have seen me retcon my own campaign dozens of times. In fact, during the playtest of the HW rules which we've been doing in the Gwandor campaign for the last two years, the players have had their characters altered no less than 13 times to fit new rules. Some of them have lost major powers and abilities, to get them back at a later addtion. They simply accepted this and got on with it. If you doubt me, take a look at Wesleys site for the player characters, some of them are very old, some more modern in HW rules terms.

I view Glorantha as a giant playtest. Its Gregs playtest at core, he is the GM and we are the players in a world wide game world playtest. However, like me in my campaign, he has ultimate control. To me this is implicitly understood. Like my own game, it is the players game, but they need me to direct and control events, plot lines and characters. If I don't like something, I simply change it. They trust in my judgement on that. I trust Gregs.
