Another analogy is the fact that only a tiny minority of Pelorians belongs to the Red Goddess esoteric cult.

In Stalinist USSR, it was easy to be a member of the Komsomols, the Pioneers and other groups but I think I've read that only 1% of the population was a member of the Communist Party proper (and there was a huge waiting list of opportunists as being a member gave so many priviledges).

No, Chris was right, the "Third Rome" is a very important part of the Russian ideology: he was talking about Ivan the Great (1462-1505). You must think about Peter the Great (ruled 1682-1725).
