You got a point there. The Lunar Empire is supposed to trade a lot. You know. The Etyries, the trade monopolies etc., but all that doesn't matter if you got no-one else to bargain with than some barbarians that don't like you and that probably are at war with you on religious grounds. With Sartar & the Holy Country cutting their share, what is left to the glorious lunar empire? Some... But they are greedy bastards.

They really don't have anyone else to trade with. Ralios? No! With one pass between Ralios and Peloria the trade done must be next to nothing (and with the toll Ralkazark charges!). (Maybe not locally, but in the grand scheme of things.) Fronela? No. Those Moonboats can't carry that much. Kralorela? Yes, but with that distance and the dangerous lands in the way... a scant few dozen caravans a year.
