This Red Emperor stuff

I hesitate to leap into this debate at so late a stage but could I perhaps put forward a question which might focus the debate somewhat?

"Can a prominent noble of the Lunar Empire hope to become (or become part of) the Emperor and retain enough of his previous identity to have an influence on the Empire's future?"

There is no power to be won in oblivion so there will be no pretenders to Red-Emperorhood if the answer is no.

Having said this, there is still scope for GF (if not, for some, MGF) in jockeying for positions of influence in the court of the new emperor to come - it just wouldn't take quite the same form as depicted in LoM (as I understand it from reading the character write-ups).

I realise the above probably falls under the heading of "That's what we've been arguing about stoopid!" but I thought it might be of some use to focus back on that question.
