One of the reasons uncemented goodies don't stay unless you spend hero points is that most people are part of communities of some sort. You probably are expected to give your gains to your clan chief/village headman/sacred king, in exchange for which you get community support. Or, you spend it all between episodes making sure your followers remain loyal by buying them all a week at the Uleria temple.
Think of Conan -- not only does he not have to root around in his loincloth for a few coppers, he's always without his fabulous wealth by the beginning of the next story.
