I not sure why the Hero Plane being one contiguous area would make it lose unique environments. The world is one contiguous area and it has all sorts of different environments, mnay of them very different. I've always envisioned the Hero Plane as operating in this fashion. I don't think the boundaries between the different planes (for lack of a better word) are that clear cut.

I don't think so. Going from Seshnela to Kralorela is a long trip and you'll see all sorts of unfamiliar things on your trip but it's not a Hero Quest despite your being the first Seshnelan to visit Kralorela. You're brave and heroic but that's NOT the same thing as a hero quest. Now if you keep heading east and get as far as the Gates of Dawn, then that's a different story.

This is at least partially true BUT you can enter the Hero Plane without intending to so I don't think it's the whole story. The Hero Plane overlays the mortal plane and that's why some Hero Quests seem to take place on that plane.
