:Subject: Re: Heortling Cults in the Imperial Age:

:Bit of a new thread. I am after opinions about Heortling religion in
:Dragon Pass during the Imperial Age, at the height of the EWF. I am
:basically wondering what happened to cults like Ernalda, Lhankhor Mhy,
:Humakt, even Urox. Were they, in some way, assimilated with the
:prevalent Dragon thinking (as Orlanth was) or were they marginalised and
:suppressed, later to form the basis of the Old Day Traditionalists, OR
:were they essentially the same as they are 'today' even though Orlanth
:has gone all pro-scaley.

In my game, and to my understanding the whole heortling lifestyle was draconized, to a greater or lesser extent. The EWF obviously used sorcery, of sorts, but I think this was a different breed from the Malkioni sorcery. But the EWF magicians did channel Runic Powers directly in a sorcerous fascion.
IMG again, Delecti the sorcerer was both a dragonlord and a wizard. He also knew and respected Humakt's powers, for Severance was one of the key powers he used for dissecting and combining creatures into new creatures. Delecti propably used Humakts powers reather creatively, and in a more direct fascion than Humakts worshippers.

But still, I believe the EWF heortlings had a strong Humakti tradition, and their relics include the (in)famous Raven Banner seen in KoDP, that guarantees victory in a battle, but costs the banner bearer his/her life.

I think most of the Heorling cults have EWF era aspects, that have been forgotten, but which could be brought back if the secrets were uncovered. The EWF had strong and innovative magic, and managed to succesfully oppose the Godlearners, which even the Kralori vere unable to do.

Sorry to be so incoherent, it's 3AM here in Finland and I'm starting to feel somewhat woozy. Good night and free winds!
