While acknowledging Campbell's importance in inspiring Greg & the whole idea of heroquests, I find Campbell a bit annoying to read.

He'll draw endless parallels between mythologies, but never seems to posit a hypothesis (are these Jungian archetypes, or was there cross-breeding of myths, or are they based on common events). Just my $0.02.
