HW Slayers

Hi there,

Fortified from a bludgeoning I received in another closed list as I advocated HW as a good system to do fantasy roleplaying with, I have picked up the Avalon Hill 'replacement' for RQ 'Runequest:Slayers' on the net (thanks for the CD Tom).

http://www.threefates.com/rq.html

I will be running a non-Gloranthan medieval fantasy rpg using HW early next year and am always on the look out for new ideas.

Slayers doesn't have anything to do with RQ really other than the name. I don't think the game system is anything to write home about. One of the nice things about Slayers, however, is the Rune Magic - which is completely liftable into your favourite rpg :-) As a member of a WarClan you have access to the Glyphs of your clan which give you ancient personality drivers (keywords) that provide a path to your clans Runes (magic Keywords). Each glyph is a rune with names such as 'Love'
'Remorse' 'Sacrifice' etc. WarClan Runes have such evocative names as
'Silence of the Mist' and 'Lion's Courage' (from the Beastlords Clan).

Other runes are used for enchanting by Runesmiths. I will be using these straight into HW with my Runesmith profession. Runes can be gained through Hero Points and used under a Runesmithing magical keyword. Masteries will enable the blending of more than one rune on an item. Resistence to the smithing could be based around duration and potency of the effect - the more powerful the Runesmith the 'stronger' the Rune on the item.

Anyway, this mail was just to point you in the direction of the, almost but not quite, produced AH game. I've found a rich vein to use in my non-Gloranthan game using HW, and I think you might find something there too.

Best
