under the current rules, 6HP gets you a +3 and nothing to spend on other abilities, under the varient you get +3 and still have enough points left over to put up another skill by 3 or three skills by one each. - The exact amount of incentive will depend on the amount of HP you give out and the maximum you allow an ability to be put up in a single session.
