Only if you don't know what they are beforehand. There is no way you can say they cancel out, no matter WHAT value they have, except by knowing what the values ARE beforehand. If you are choosing to ignore them regardless of their value, that is a completely different thing. It's a much nicer world where a Poleax does no more damage than a feather pillow, you may well enjoy it.

And, of course, the lower a character's ability rating, the more significant Edges and Ranks become in comparison.
