Suppose you have an player character Uzdo with Large =5w In a gaming session a prisoner is trying to escape and the Uzdo sits on him, using his Large ability in the contest. At the end of the session HPs get awarded and the player decides to increase the Uzdo's Large.
Has the troll necessarily got bigger? No, he has learned how to use his size more effectively. (He's better at throwing his weight around, in other words.)
