An alternative might be that the liturgist blesses sections of the congregation, with the support of the whole congregation, with the "work hard for church" applied to, for example, the menfolk during plowing season, "obey church" on a rebellious family, "remember Rokar's law" on those with amnesiac tendencies.
I don't liek this alternative myself, but worth considering.
