Getting rid of edges is going to make a huge difference as far as I'm concerned. When players have items, gifts, whatever, that only work in extended contests, (because they grant edges!) you get forced to use those extended contests whether you want to or not.
Still haven't figured out what to do about gifts that grant extra AP, though :(
