All but the very first part of the supposition, if I recall.

Balastor's death was not ENTIRELY caused by a horde of trollkin. Big hulking trolls were in the mix too, so you can recast the combat as

Balastor 10W3/ 70 AP

vs

Troll Body Guard of Gerak Kag 5W3 / 65 AP PLUS Nearly Endless Horde of Trollkin (call it 120 _at_ skill 20) 2400 AP

That contest looks really different by the numbers, but can still be described the same way. Alone, the Champion would almost certainly carve up the bodyguard. But the swarming spearpoints out of the darkness make the difference.
