I think that the black, black night is irrellevant. These abilities let you see the things in question no matter what. Also, remember that they can be used to see other areas of magic, IIRC at -20.

For the first several questions, I've allowed these abilities to be used like this on many occassions. In fact there's one character who collects charms who relies on Spirit Face for this quite a lot.

>f) use soul sight to detect a magical item of indeterminate origins

I think the narrator has to decide the nature of the magic in order to determine if the -20 applies or not. This really isn't hard, however, if you condisder who has the object.

>g) having detected one of the above, could you tell the nature of the
>magic?

I'd handle it like sight, actually. That is, I'd describe something about the nature of the magic that might give a hint. For example, if someone saw a Bear spirit in a charm, they could probably assume that the charm was about strength, or toughness, or something else bear related. For a talisman, they might note that it has a fire essence connected with it or somesuch.

>h) having detected one of the above, could you use it to target them
>with an arrow?

Probably not. I mean, I'd let someone target a charm certainly, but not the Spirit within. That would take some ability to penetrate to the appropriate Otherworld first. So maybe in conjuction with Hunt Spirit or something. OTOH, and FWIW, I'd allow you to shoot through the spot where an otherworld being seems to be. But I'd just rule that it would seem to pass through and strike whatever is behind.

Again, seeing them isn't really broaching the veil between worlds. That's more complicated. If you've pierced that, however, I usually describe the rift as some sort of portal, meaning that the Hero either is crossing over slightly, or the being is crossing into this world, or a little of both. Of course if it's a heroquest or other travel to the otherworld, then you just encouter them as if they were normal denizens of their world.
