Top of page 85: "Narrators may assign extra abilities to develop a sidekick..." and the paragraph following.

Yes. They can even get new, not-in-keyword, abilities if the narrator agrees.

But remember that if a Sidekick is killed you might not get exactly that mix of abilities when you "replace" him.
