When you can avoid all the usual delays and all the twists and turns
of the road, even moderate speed makes Dragon Pass seem pretty cozy.
There was a need combo in the RQ 3 sorcery rules using the "reduce:
size" spell and then "fly", that let a semi-competent sorcreor fly
somewhat faster than a galloping horse. In fact in Jeff Kyer's
upland swamp game, our group had a semi-competent sorceror who was
pretty smug at being able to make day trips from Duck Point to
Boldhome (well, overnight trips anyway, the limiting factor being
magic points). We (or at least I) thought about using him to
revolutionize the communication system in Sartar, but there ended up
being more fun things to do to him (say, how would you like to get a
really BIG power spirit, so you could make the round trip in one day
amongst other things?......)
Anyway, I think this is the really potency of the moon boats--not
that they are so fast, but that they can travel so steadily, without
even having to deal with the twists and turns of normal river travel.
(although I do wonder about latrine breaks? If they don't take
those, I really wouldn't to be living under a moon boat flight
path....)
