We once took a leaf out of Spirit of the Century, and used the 100 words collaboratively.

The first 25 words detailed the PC. The next 25 detailed what the PC did in a recent important conflict, the second 25 detailed how another PC's clan was percived as the enemy of the character, and the last 25 dealt with how the other PC had gained the characters respect and or friendship despite his position. Each relationship had to involve a different pairing resulting in a web of relationships around the table.

The premise was whether the PCs could put aside their Clans differences and work together as instructed by a higher authority, so it gave everyone common background and both positive and negative relationships to work with on the character sheet.
