My thoughts are:
- If a character is a magician, give them a rating in their Grimoire
and let them improvise spells, keeping track of only how many have
been cast. until they get an opportunity to relearn their spells.
(If they fail then maybe they don't have an appropriate spell
memorised or the spell goes wrong or the application of the spell
doesn't have the desired effect).
- If a character finds a book of spells that they aren't going to
keep they can choose to try to memorise spells. I'd give each spell a
difficulty rating and augment it with the difficulties of the spells
already known.
