Resolution Points aren't Hit Points.

While obviously there are stories involving teams, it seems unrealistic to expect two people to be twice as likely to overcome a story obstacle (remember that some obstacles aren't "opponents" per se -- for example, you might be racing against time to repair your spaceship -- but since there's only one main engine, two people can't do the job in half the time).

And it would be kind of boring if all you had to do was put two people on the job to pretty much automatically succeed.

On the other hand, it's much more exciting if the opponent could reasonably take out one of the PCs. (Remember, RP are relative advantage, it's easy to imagine the opponent pressing one PC and leaving himself open to the other.)

There are various ways to collaborate such that teams are more likely to succeed, ranging from augments, assists, to simply being a multiple opponent penalty.
