In reality, isn't a 'thunderstone' the term used for a piece of lightning-fused glass created when a lightning bolt hits sand? You get an elongated, jagged rather archetypical 'lightning bolt' shaped lump a few inches long. Unsuited for a slingstone, but a superb ritual object for summoning the storm...
