Maybe not what you meant, but:

  1. any verbal modifier can be used to give a +1 or -1

e.g., short sword rank 2, big knife rank 2, long spear rank etc.

2) any two handed weapon typically gets +1 rank

so Quarterstaff is rank 4,
2H axe is rank 4

One implication is that ranks can't exceed 6 for mundane weapons (and eventhen you might want special circumstances to apply, e.g., only strong characters can wield rank 6 weapons).
