Well, given the Celtic/Germanic comparison with earth cultures, it should be remembered that these folks gave the Romans some truly nasty frights with fanatical sword-swinging warriors charging at the Legions (or, more often, ambushing them from the woods). Those big hacking swords were particularly feared. The earth-equivilants of the Orlanthi were certainly principally melee fighters. Magic, of course, makes a difference, but I see the orlanthi as hand-to-hand warriors.
