Ars Magica hadles that well -- your most powerful reputation (good or ill) is the only one that matters in the community.

If you had a reputation: Fierce Warrior 5w with your tribe and 'Hates Elmal with Elmali priest 17', then in your tribe they'd thnk you were a great warrior. The farther away you get from that community, the weaker the reputation gets (improvise penalty)...

...but you're still known for public hated of Elmal by his priests.
