Dormal didn't exactly build a ship. He used ancient designs but I think his magic allowed them to sidestep the Closing through a loophole.

The loophole being that he was actually travelling around in very ornate piece of driftwood. Or a giant turnip.

However, I think this is getting a bit esoteric for a Hero Wars game. Perhaps we might continue this discussion on the Glorantha Digest?

Dormal's ship was built from 'ancient designs carved onto a warhouse floor'

He rebuilt an ancient ship - it worked well enough then. His claim to fame was his method sidestepping the Closing (as above)
