I think people need to get rid of this 20thC concept of killing being a
"crime" whereof "innocence" is an issue. Killing someone openly for whatever
reason is not so much a "crime" as a problem to be resolved (usually bloodily or expensively). Obviously the more atrocious the killing seems the more wergild.and/or blood the offended clan will want (whether they can get it is another matter though ). Of course, particularly vile deeds will likely garner the offended clan sympathy and possibly support outside of the clan...
