I admit that when I write "bush" I'm thinking of the stuff you see around here, where the amount of undergrowth is extensive, not to mention dead branches, rocks, etc. It provide plenty of cover for a hunter to lurk in, but doesn't give much room to manoevre and aim a great long hunk of wood.

On the other hand, most of the forests I saw in France and Germany were dominated by mature trees, and not much else. There was minimal undergrowth and no deadwood. Concealing yourself would be substantially harder in such an environment, but certainly a long bow would be more reasonable.

I've always assumed that since Sartar was largely unoccupied for quite some time, and only re-occupied for a couple of centuries or so, that the majority of its forest is more like "bush," largely unkempt and messy stuff. Near steads the deadwood would have all been gathered, and undergrowth probably kept down by grazing, so that would be different.
