Mike Dawson provides an alternative for this option in his Tower of Ivory Heroquest: the raiding questor enters in a Quest as an actor of a station and then waits in that station for an enemy (e.g. ordinary heroquester doing the linear HQ when and how he likes to) to arrive, effectively ambushing him with a stronger and/or different opposition rather than that one which the ordinary heroquester expects to meet in that station. I think this is nasty and dangerous enough for a climactic heroquest! (not for an initiation ritual...)
