Hmmm... no-one mentioned the otherworld aspects of the Discworld books yet, then?

IIRC, it's in Carpe Jugulum that the witches have to go to get Granny back from her self imposed exile, where they have to leap a chasm that's simultaneously 6 inches and 30 feet across... it's a fantastic introduction to reality in a hero plane.

Most of the Witches books have a heightened sense of living in a universe where Mythic Reality holds the reigns (expressed in the books as Narrative Causality), which is at least a minor thread in most of the books.

Of course, for the ultimate Hero Quest, we have Cohen the Barbarian in The Last Hero... taking fire back to the Gods.
