I'd think being a *foreigner* and a trickster is an even faster route to the lynching. Of course, being a foreign non-human trickster might take the cake and the hat-trick...

Of course, it might be easier to convince them you weren't a trickster, if you're culturally different enough, but the anvils falling from the sky on you are usually a giveaway. But it would be an easier way to "cover it up," true.
