Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I had an idea that I don't think was addressed.

I assume every culture has its own trickster god, yes? And from what I can see, the Heortling trickster (Eurmal) is a phenomenally anti-social variant on the Trickster. So... if a player wants to be a trickster, perhaps he can worship some other culture's trickster god? Say, the Grazelander or Praxian trickster, whoever it might be? You could rule that that culture's trickster is obnoxious (thus explaining why the player got kicked out of home), but not so terribly obnoxious that his worshippers are unplayable (the way Eurmali are).

Or, if someone is dead-set on playing a Eurmali, perhaps he comes from some other Orlanthi culture (Tarsh?), and in your Glorantha, that particular culture has a mellower take on Eurmal. Of course, the character would have his hands full convincing the Sartarites that he was a Eurmali, but not *that kind* of Eurmali, so they don't have to kill him...

Would this work?
