Naiads vs. Niiads?

In G:IttHW (p. 212), there are several references to 'Niiads' - apparently the Godtime ancestors of the Triolini. Is this spelling a mistake (as I had always believed the proper spelling to be 'Naiad'), or the correct Gloranthan spelling? Or maybe I'm confusing apples & oranges? With the little I know, they seem similar to Greek naiads, but that's not necessarily so.

Thanks,

Josh
