Each Humakti devotee = 2 dead? (was Re: New devotees, starting feats)

Jane seems to insist that for each devotion one clan member has to undergo Grandpa Mortal's trial of the Sword Story, and that to lose a clan member to Death.

Come on! Humakt is about death and dying, but this takes it too far. You might as well demand that _every_ Orlanthi devotee has to produce offspring with the Dark Woman during his devotion (performing Orlanth and Aroka) and slay the chieftain next door (continuing the Sword Story)...

Humakti Devotion might be seen as the making of a blade. The initiee comes as the raw ore and has to undergo smelting, casting and hammering to get into shape. Then the raw blade (initiate) has to undergo tests and sharpening to prove its devotion.

I think that the severe "kill a clan/warband member" stuff is Disciple grade.

Unless you think of this as the Humakti retirement scheme...
