Getting a bit digesty.

There's an old description of part of the old Western trade route, following the Gorphing, which river is described as unfordable, being at the bottom of a canyon, and suggested as having many rapids.

Anyway, I qualified my unnavigable as being _relative_.

The proximity of the Heler storm combined with the yearly rivalry with Elmal means that the amount of water in the river beds will fluctuate, sometimes fairly wildly, so that the rivers won't always be easily navigable (sometimes too dry, sometimes too wet).

Floods are also relatively common IMO.

I'm really basing this on Parisian memories of about 3 years ago, when a radically severe rainy season caused the Seine to become unnavigable for *four solid months*. Not just the amount of water, and speed of the flow, but huge amounts of floating debris such as dead trees et cetera. I can see this sort of thing occurring in Esrolia every 2-3 years, at least, and for shorter periods _every_ year (in early Sea Season) ...

It _is_ the Land of Rivers. :-)
