Augmenting is no less magical than invoking specific feats, it just involves less ritual. It is a brief, impromtu prayer for good luck, rather than a small, more formal offering for particular effect. My preference is to reward players with bonuses to their magic if they use ritual during play... thus, sprinkling mead on the god's statue or anointing it with blood might give a small increase in the value of a hero's augmentation. Sacrifice a loaf of bread and mug of ale, and your attempt to invoke a feat might likewise get a minor boost. It adds color and reinforces the religious nature of magic.
