According to _Storm Tribe_, homosexuality is acknowledged and tolerated, although characters are still likely to face some prejudice. Worship of Heler is apparently one refuge (p. 78).
An interesting description of Heortling attitudes appears on page 171:
"The Heortling religion allows great tolerance, and its egalitarian ideals are easy to accept when unconventional people are absent. However, worshippers of deities such as Nandan [god of berdaches] and Vinga [goddess of women warriors] often face resistance from the common Heortling confronted with their presence. Most stead folk live relatively closed lives, and many assume that the way they live is the way everyone is supposed to live ... Narrators can choose to make these reactions as much or as little trouble in their game as they wish."
