Looking at the description of Prophecy Day, it is based on events of the preceeding two weeks, which just happen to be Sacred Time. Assuming the Ancestors speak of the year to come during Sacred Time, as in KoDP, you could say that it is all based on the sages' correct interpretation of what they have just witnessed (i.e. the future is the Ancestors' job). that still leaves the sages casting a net into the future (in the description) to be explained.
Alternatively, they just make it all up and then joke amongst themselves about who told the tallest tale and how Chief Oddi swallowed it hook line and sinker.
