Counter-insurgency and Guerilla

How about, just what comes to mind ...

The British in Malaya and Kenya in this century.

The US conquest of sundry Native American peoples.

The Albigensian Crusade.

Many, many revolts suppressed by medieval rulers.

The issue is complicated because in modern times you can almost never completely eliminate an insurgent force. Most states these days are not willing to go to the extremes of mass deportation or genocide that would have been used in ancient times.
