I think this is largely the case. I, for example, am fond of pointing out that I am largely immune to cold (Immune to Cold 5W) and that any temperature above 75 degrees farenheit has me running for air conditioning. One can always put on more clothes to be comfortable, but one can only take off so many. Even bare nekkid, I'm still not going to be outside over 80 degrees if I can help it.

Let's try to put some Glorantha spin back on this ball. I'm composed of German, Sweedish, and Scottish stock. Yeah, I'm your typical Heortling, I think. Meaning I'm big. 300 lbs of me, and, no, not all fat (though I have a plentiful layer of that, too). I've always wondered if the Aryans migrated to northern europe because of the climate, or if they adapted to it when they got there. But as a whole, we're suited to it well, I think. At least as an example, I am.

My wife being largely Norwegian in ancestry, we together have apparently back-bred a Dane. Alexander, our 4-year old is blonde and blue eyed, and titanic (over 60 lbs already). Last winter, I caught him running out in sub-zero (farenheit, again, not celcius) weather and snow, without a shred of clothing on (apparently I've forgotten to instil a nudity taboo in him). I asked him if he was cold, and he said after a bit that his bare feet, being in the snow, yes, were a little cold. Not that I didn't have to carry him back inside...

Immune to Cold 15W, I'm guessing. But you've never seen a 4 year old sweat like this kid does now that it's summer. He actually lost some weight. Yeah, we're like bears, and we get heavy in the winter.

Basically I'm betting that the Heortlings high up in the mountains are simply well-adapted to it. Fimbulwinter is one thing, of course. But given an average winter, I doubt they complain much at all. An easy price to pay for mild summers, if you ask me.

Generally I think you can work backwards like this a lot of the time. If they're there, it's because they've learned to like what they're doing. Even if it's non-sensical to others.

Mike
