Hmmm. Actually, throughout the old Howard books, he's pretty much able to avoid or defeat sorcery through strong will, "pantherish reflexes" or just plain luck. Occasionally Crom or Mithra is nice to him too (but not often).. usually when dealing with Serpent Headed Set's priests.

I'd say that that's a talent or affinity working. Off hand I'd say he'd survive pretty well in Glorantha. Just beause one can't raise a Shield of the Seraphim or invoke the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, doesn't mean one can't defend against hostile magic... Apparently, one can improvise...! Usually of 'Pantherish Reflexes" 10w3 =)
