In addition to the wisdom of the previous lawspeakers, remember also that while the Heortling laws are repositories and guides for acceptable Orlanthi behaviour (I can't bring myself to write 'good'), if they're ever actually recited before a court it will be a law suit between *different* clans. That's how Heortling law works.

If Braggi Bentbow's been silly enough to get caught propitiating nasties by his own clansmen, they will have some fairly direct means of dealing with it that certainly won't involve a law court.

But if Braggi is summoned before a court, it will be by another clan. And the whole of Braggi's clan is responsible for the outrage. If nasty nasties are persuaded not to bother *your* tula, well where do you think they're going to go?
